Vaginal Condoms: A Complete Guide for Safe and Empowered Protection

As far as sexual health is concerned, awareness and choice are very important. Although male condoms are common, vaginal condoms (also referred to as female condoms) are just as effective but are frequently overlooked. This blog will explain vaginal condom, how they work, and the advantages of using them, as well as provide tips on correctly using vaginal condom.

What Are Vaginal Condoms?

Condoms or vaginal condoms provide dual protection through effective contraception and STD prevention. Vaginal condoms are generally constructed from either latex or polyisoprene and utilise a physical barrier to inhibit sperm from travelling into the woman's uterus (a physical barrier).

Vaginal condoms consist of two distinct components that establish the physical barrier preventing sperm from entering the woman's uterus; The innermost ring provides the structural integrity necessary to allow for proper insertion of the vaginal condom into the woman's vagina while the outermost ring provides protection against the transmission of sperm and/or other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) into the woman's uterus. Vaginal condoms are used to inhibit sperm from accessing the uterus and have also been shown to be an effective means of preventing the transmission of STDs and/or other infections into the woman's uterus.

Why Choose Vaginal Condoms?

Female condoms prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (such as HIV/AIDS).

Using a female condom gives women greater control over how to prevent pregnancies; however, a man who uses a male condom depends on his partner's supply or feels pressure to use a male condom.

In contrast to most male condoms, the majority of female condoms and/or vaginal condoms are composed of nitrile, rather than latex. Women allergic to latex may, therefore, use a female condom.

Using vaginal or female condoms can also allow both partners in a relationship to prepare each other for each other's bodies with a barrier, prior to engaging in sexual intimacy with each other, thereby allowing neither partner to be interrupted during sexual intimacy due to the condom.

How to Use a Vaginal Condom

1. Before using an internal condom, make sure that it comes in a sealed package and that its expiration date has not passed.

2. While using an internal condom, you can sit or lie down; make sure you are comfortable.

3. To insert an internal condom into the vagina, extend the arm that is holding the internal condom and hold it in the same manner as inserting a tampon; use the fingers of the other hand to locate the top of the uterus or cervix and push the internal condom into the vagina until your finger touches the top.

4. When inserting your penis into the external ring of the internal condom, be careful not to push anything except your penis through the external ring of the internal condom.

5. Insert your penis into an internal condom gently, by sliding your penis through the external ring of the internal condom.

6. After having had sexual intercourse with your partner, remove the internal condom by twisting off the external ring and throwing it away (do not flush down a toilet).

Final Thoughts

The use of vaginal condoms for safe sex is empowering due to their flexibility to use and their high level of protection. The continued increase in everyone’s understanding of safe sex options has led to many individuals exploring the vaginal condom as one of the many ways to maintain a healthy sexual lifestyle.

If you are considering vaginal condoms as a safe and effective option of contraception (birth control method) controlled directly by the female user, then vaginal condoms should be a viable option.
